Heading Home From Lima

After leaving the BMW MOA National Rally in Lima on Saturday around 4:30 PM, we rode Highway 30 west through Ohio and Indiana to Juliet, IL. Highway 30 allong this route is different with traffic lights seeming to appear in the middle of no where about every 2 or 3 miles. We were forced to make some quick stops due to this. South of Chicago we stopped for fuel at a station where gas was around $2.70/gal.

We stopped for Dinner around 10 PM in Juliet, IL at a dinner just north of where Highway 30 ducks under I-80. The food at this establishment was excellent, they had a great menu and reasonable prices.

We swung onto I-80 after eating and headed West looking for a Super 8 Motel to spend the night at. After missing the first Super 8, we stopped at the next 4 hotel exits. After stopping and inquiring about rooms at several motels, I began to wonder if we would find a Motel in Illinois with a free room. About 2 AM Sunday we pulled into Peru, IL and found a room at the Super 8 there. They too would have been out, but thier cleaning staff had quit the day before and the managers were making rooms available as they cleaned the rooms. In the lobby after we checked in, I saw another lady traveler who was near tears because we and 2 other lucky groups of travelers had snagged the last 3 rooms.

Leta and I rose about 10 AM the next morning and packed back up. We were on the road by 11 AM. Sunday was an extremely hot day, but we made good time and reached home about 8 PM. During the heat of the day we where forced to make several stops to cool off, or we would have made better time.

Picture is our the Watertower in Peru, IL next to the Super 8 where we stayed Saturday evening. Think about it, from Lima to Peru...
